If OVERCOOKED Had A Cousin This WOULD BE IT! Tools Up Review

We wish we felt the same way about our house as we do about the houses in Tools Up! This timed renovation adventure was an instant hit with us and our friends, let's talk about why!

Tools Up plops you inside a skyscraper with the simple goal of remodeling each unit. It does a beautiful job of meshing simple mechanics with fantastic fun. Easy controls and full couch co-op support make this game excellent for parties and everyone involved. From toddlers to grandparents, anyone can help with the remodel.

The game does an excellent job of building up your skills and abilities throughout the campaign. Starting you off with simple tasks like painting and laying carpet. However, as you progress, the game continues to add more complicated renovations for you to do, such as applying new wallpaper and installing tiles. Both of which require a pre-application of glue or grout, creating a special opportunity for collaboration.

You will also have ample opportunity to rip out wall paper and old flooring, as well as demolish entire walls. As you might imagine, old flooring and wallpaper has to go somewhere, making cleaning an essential part of the game. Time and time again we found ourselves slipping on garbage and knocking over the trash or paint cans, making an even bigger mess. We also were baffled on several occasions when we completed all the items except one. Come to find out we had spilled a can of paint outside and needed to clean it up.

You can play alone, however this is a co-op game at its core, supporting 2-4 players with loads of fun co-op mechanics. From coordinating whose turn it is to go through the door, who will apply the glue and who will apply the wallpaper, and much more. The more players you add into the cramped interior of these remodels the more you will need to communicate in order to avoid collisions and a massive waste of time. Heaven forbid that Jerry trips over the trash can, creating a bigger mess for everyone else to trip over.

Along with simple objectives and controls the game includes fun mechanics, allowing you to pick up and throw items or friends over walls, or to other players. Or, like our four year old niece, you could simply carry other players off…

While tools up is Incredibly straightforward it does have its fair share of ever increasing obstacles to overcome. From trying to fish materials out of a swirling stream to avoiding lava, slipping on the ice, receiving new blueprints in the middle of a remodel, or even being terrorized by a demon dog. As you complete levels in the game you will also unlock a variety of quirky characters to play as. Each of which are adorable and dorky in their own way, coming in all sorts of shapes, sizes and species.

We had a blast with this game and enjoyed every minute with it! Our only complaint is that it only had 25 levels and was over too fast. Only taking about 2 hours to complete the campaign. We had expected more content for the price, but overall the game was well worth the time spent.

We love you guys! Y’all are awesome!
