Operation Tango Review - INTENSE Spy Cooperation!

Watch our review here!

At times, Operation Tango had us feeling like real life secret agents, while other times it had us questioning our friendship and verbal communication skills. This Espionage online co-op adventure has hidden thrills around every corner. It takes you on a trip around the globe in an effort to take down the evil villian. Along the way you will complete six different missions, each requiring clear cut verbal communication for all the individual puzzles. Each mission begins with a mission impossible type introduction, quickly briefing you about the mission you are about to perform.

One of you will play as Alistair, the hacker, while the other plays as Angel, the agent. As the hacker you are the man behind the desk. You have all the answers and give the directions; watching over your partner and guiding them through invisible lasers, or simply providing them with cover IDs and passcodes. As the agent you will be in the nitty gritty of things; executing actions deftly in the field and on the fly. From dashing around corners before being seen by drones, to cracking safes and repelling down deep pits.

In each mission one thing is certain, and that is failure. From running out of time, being spotted as you go around a corner, or being cut down by lasers, we failed over and over again. However, penalties for failure are very forgiving, often respawning you mere moments before. From the very beginning of the game teamwork is required, and everything you see is important. It is your job to communicate in a way that your partner can make connections with what they see. You never know what nook or cranny might hide the clue to solving the next puzzle.

There is a large variety of puzzles throughout the story; ranging from memorizing color sequences, relaying loads of information, avoiding lasers, and yelling about what you can and cannot see. Despite a couple infuriating puzzles that took us ages to solve, we really enjoyed the co-op puzzle solving, and always had a virtual smile on our faces. We felt triumphant everytime we finally worked out the proper solution to a problem.

The game includes fun and quirky moments throughout. These include seeing what apps people are using, their chosen career such as professional cuddler and virtual doctor, as well as a number of other humorous insertions here and there.

Each of the six missions can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour depending on how competent you are at solving each puzzle and how much time you waste deliberating who was at fault. This puts the playtime somewhere around 3-5 hours. Both the hacker and agent are extremely enjoyable to play as and the main replay factor comes in the form of switching characters, or playing with a different friend.

Operation Tango is a fantastic treat for co-op enthusiasts; creating a masterful blend of verbal communication with sweet success. It also comes with a fully crossplay compatible friends pass, allowing you to play for free with anyone, as long as one of you has purchased the game. The game is available on Playstation, Xbox, and PC.
